Eighty Percent of Success Is Showing Up (Woody Allen)
Our business has really been improving. Why? I could say it is because, we're:
- Having company meetings every week instead of every month or two.
- Focusing on short-term cash flow.
- Being more direct with people we work with.
- Making sales calls everyday.
However, I think the real reason is that we're putting in full days on what NEEDS to be done, not necessarily what we WANT to do. In other words, we've elected for the gratification that comes from holding ourselves accountable and getting results instead of the pleasure that comes from talking a big game and working hard on what we want to do.
The difference between gratification and pleasure is subtle, but it's everything. What's more important to you?

Congratulations! I'm very glad to hear that you guys are doing so well. You definitely deserve it.
I can only confirm what you say. As my mentor says 'Results, not excuses'. Measuring results on a regular basis has proven so valuable for me, for instance in bookkeeping. I used to really hate it, and post-pone it, but I notice that the more I'm on top of it, just by that act alone things get better.
You're doing a great job MIchael, both in having your company, and sharing your insights with everybody willing to read and learn from the incredible source of wisdom you are.
Proud to know you,
Tijl
Thank you for your comment Tijl. It is very much appreciated.
Michael,
I've been following this blog now for some time and I want to say its one of my favorites. I've had many of the same experiences as a young entrepreneur, and found that these experiences have led me to many similar conclusions about “what makes people tick.” But I’ve never been able to put it down on paper quite like you have – and that’s what is so impressive.
I’m glad your business is taking off, and hope at some time our paths cross!
