Testimonials

Over dinner last night, Patricia and I pined over how close we are to holding the completed book in our hands, and talked about the next steps we needed to take to see this happen. Other than cover design and layout, it has come time to seek testimonials for the book. Actually, we are a little bit past time on this and should have been working on it a few weeks ago. However, we came up with a solid plan, and I am done with pining and ready for action! We are going to begin sending out previews of the book to select individuals for their feedback. I guess this is where ‘rubber meets the road’ – it should be really interesting to see the reviews!

Workbook Status (cont.)

We are making progress here...the book is back from the professional editor, Tony Towle (who did an incredible job). So now all of the content is done, and now we are working on cover design and layout.

Layout is pretty straightforward, but we are going to have that professionally done as well in order to make sure that there are no problems. Cover design on the other hand really intimidates me because it will be the first thing people see, and probably the main determinant of whether people will buy the book. This too will be professionally done, and I am hoping it will not take too long.

Workbook Status

Believe it or not, The Student Success Manifesto Workbook has made it to the professional editor! Which means that it is almost done!! The editor, Tony Towle, has given April 1st as the date by which he will have it done. From there, we will review his changes, do any final touches, and get ready to send it to the printer. Which means we will have copies available most likley by late May. As this date is finalized, we will make available copies for preorder and I will keep everyone updated about that.

This is a huge accomplishment, and I am very excited about it. I'm really happy with the way it is turning out. And I really appreciate all of the people who gave their time and effort to giving feedback. It would not have been the same without you!

A quick question for anyone who has not already given their thoughts - we are trying to decide whether to call the book: "The Student Success Manifesto Workbook" or "Now or Never: The Life Planning Guide" or something in between, like "Now or Never: The Student Success Manifesto Life Planning Guide". I am very interested what you think is the better title and why. Thanks!

The Writer's Life

I'm not going to apologize again for my sparse posts. To be completely honest - and that's what this blog is about - I simply have not had the time or been motivated enough to find the time to write entries, because when I am in the flow of writing I focus completely on The Student Success Manifesto Workbook. So how is the progress coming along on that?

Well folks, we may actually be nearing the end of this project. A few more months to go, no doubt, but in the final stretches for sure. And then the blog will have all my writing to itself. No more having to share writing time with a book!

As we come to this final stretch, I will be in desparate need for some reviewers who will give their feedback, edits, and testimonials on the book before we send it to the professional editor. Especially valuable are those Extreme Entrepreneurs out there who will use the Workbook to create a Life Plan of their own! Reviewers will have 2-3 weeks to give their comments and the reviewing process will begin two weeks from today. If you are interested, please send an email to sheena@successmanifesto.com. Those of you who give the most useful and constructive comments will be mentioned in the acknowlegements section of the book! I look forward to hearing from you!

Workbook Progress

This week has been incredibly productive (despite my lack of blog entries). I basically rewrote most of the workbook, and as a result it has improved by about 90%. It is extremely painful to trash something you have spent a lot of time on, but in writing and business, I’m finding that’s the way it has to be done. Often a lot of the preliminary work is not what is published or used as the final project. So in a sense, the preliminary work (like my first draft of the workbook) really feels like a waste of time. However, it was definitely essential to do that work in order to really understand and clarify my ideas about what I wanted to come out in my writing.

After months of working on the workbook, I sat down and in one day wrote 40 pages…and those 40 pages were better than almost anything I had written before. Now I feel comfortable with the base and I’m working on tweaking minor details. Perhaps it will not be so long until launch…
