Vipassanya

In a little less than a month, I will be on my way to Massachusetts for a 10-day meditation retreat. In case you missed Michael’s post last year about Vipassanya, let me briefly explain what this entails: no email, no computers, no phone…no talking or even journaling for the full ten days.

When Michael went last year, I have to admit I was concerned that he would come back brainwashed or traumatized or both. It just did not seem like a safe position to put yourself in – entirely cut off from the world, and in a sense, even from your own thoughts. However, he came back with no notable damage and evaluated the program as having a highly positive effect on his life. Thus, I feel more comfortable with it and I’m going to go ahead and do it this year.

I’m looking forward to it very much, and feel that this is the best time in my life for the experience. I feel I need this space to just be – silent and ‘unproductive’ – without feeling the guilt that I should be doing something else.
